Those who have never owned a dog before, but want to in the near future, should know that some breeds are best avoided. That is if you are going to be a new dog owner. With that said, here are the 5 worst breeds for new dog owners.

1. Bullmastiff- This breed of dog may be fiercely loyal to its owners and they are very protective of their family when need be, but they are a challenging breed of dog and new dog owners should not get one. There are a number of reasons for this, with the first one being that they can weigh around 100-130 pounds, which means they could end up overpowering you. You need to provide a Bullmastiff with positive training and stand up to him, plus he has a very high prey drive.

2. Rottweilers- The Rottweiler is a massive dog and some of them can be extremely gentle, but if the wrong owner is in possession of one, then a Rottweiler can be a very scary dog. In other words, new dog owners should avoid getting this breed because they are best suited for those who can take a dominate role. This means that Rottweilers wants someone to be the boss, because if you aren't, then he will take the role of being the boss. Also, let's not forget that many Rottweiler weigh well over 100 pounds, and some can weight up to 135 pounds.

3. Chow- Chows may look quite and cuddly and just a lovable dog, but the truth is that they can sometimes be very stubborn, and before you achieve the results you want from them, be prepared to do a lot of training with them. Chows are sometimes known for being aggressive towards dogs, and they can be very wary of strangers.

4. The Akita- This is another breed of dog that new dog owners should not get, as they can be quite a challenge to train. Also, they will likely need to be walked for 20-30 minutes per day, and they have a strong prey drive, so they need to be kept on a leash at all times. These dogs may be intelligent and gorgeous, but they are best suited for those who have owned dogs in the past.

5. Dalmatians- Many kids and adults look at this breed of dog and automatically think of Disney Movies and cartoons. They are also known as being a firehouse dog, and they are best known for their distinguished look, as they are often seen with black spots all over their fur. However, they have such an abundance of energy, and they may even become destructive if they get bored, therefore only experienced dog owners should have one as a pet.

The breeds mentioned above are not bad dogs. However, they are generally best suited for experienced dog owners. If you are looking to own a dog in the near future, then you might want to not get any of the five mentioned above.
