Barking Dogs Seldom Bite - What Does This Mean To The Owner?

When you come across statements such as "barking dogs seldom bite," what crosses your mind? Is it the barking of the dog, or the bite from the dog? Trying to demystify this saying is not so easy. But, whichever the case, it dwells on having a well-mannered and properly trained pet.

As a dog owner you want a dog that can offer you the best protection. I mean, why should your guard dog hide in the corner when intruders break into the house? You also don't want your pet barking all night and making you lose your sleep. The next thing may be you apologizing to the neighbors. Or would you rather deal with the not-so-friendly dog control officers?

Why Should You Worry About A Dog Who Barks Consistently?

Dog barking is normal. But, at times it can be quite irritating. How are you supposed to get some sleep if your dog barks throughout the night? How are you going to be the friendly neighbor if your puppy barks throughout the day after you live for work?

Non-stop barking is a symptom for many dog problems. One, it may be the dog is suffering from separation anxiety. Two, it has failed to recognize you as the pack leader. Three, it feels uncomfortable or unsafe in its den or kennel. (Maybe it's too small or dirty).

Should You Worry About A Dog That Rarely Barks?

When a dog is always barking, you know there is a problem. However, if the dog rarely barks even when it is expected to, then you have a bigger problem. Dogs communicate by barking and when it is not doing so how are you supposed to talk to it?

A dog may not bark because it is scared and would rather keep to itself. However, a dog that rarely barks may be holding anger inside. Can you imagine what would happen if it finally decided to let go of its anger? Hmmm... not a pretty sight!

If given a choice, would you rather have a dog that barks but is as scared as hell? Or would you have the silent dog that can show aggression without warning? Well, this is always a tough question to answer.
