Placing pads between
Urine odors are the last thing you would want in your house. When your senior cat starts urinating everywhere, medical examination is necessary. If the vet confirms the cat does not have a problem and that is just leaky, then consider placing pee pads in the spaces between litter trays. Your cat could be doing this because it is not warned when the need to go arises, yet it still needs the tray.
Behavioral change
In case after the examination the vet says no medical issues was detected, then the setback is behavioral. Cats are different and some will not pee in a tray they have used before. Stress issues

Once a cat gets used to a certain brand of litter, then changing it could result to changes - like not using the tray when it needs to go. Cats are sensitive to things like a different scent.
Territorial issues
A cat will not want to feel inferior especially if there is a new cat on the block. If this new cat has not been neutered, it will probably pee around a shared fence or the compound. On seeing or observing this, your cat might not want to be replaced and so it could also start using the same spot when it wants to go. Neutering or spraying could solve that problem.
