Bringing A New Puppy Into Your Home

If you have ever adopted a dog before, you know that bringing your new puppy home is a very exciting moment. The first night after you bring your puppy home is always filled with laughter and with opportunities to bond with your new pet. It is best to plan everything before you bring your puppy home so that this first night together is a stress-free experience for your new pet.

Before you bring your dog home, you need to make a list of everything you will need and make sure everything is ready in advance. You will need some puppy food, preferably a brand your new puppy is already used to since you can always change your puppy's diet later on. You should also buy a food and a water dish since most puppies tend to need a lot of water when they are excited.

You should get a crate so that your puppy can get used to the place where they will sleep. It might help to keep your puppy's crate in your bedroom so they are not alone. Your puppy will probably whine and cry during the first few nights.

Purchase a collar and a leash before you bring your puppy home. Choose a collar that will fit properly. Ideally, you should have enough room to put two fingers between your puppy's neck and the collar. A collar that is too small can be dangerous and a collar that fits too loosely is pointless. You do not have to purchase an expensive collar for your puppy since your pet will probably outgrow it within a few months.

Your puppy needs a calm environment for its first night in a new home. It will probably be excited and scared at the same time. It is normal for a young puppy to be scared of a new home. Keep in mind that your new pet is already used to an environment and to some people and that you are introducing it to something new. Your puppy will get used to its new home and family within a few days.

You should take your puppy out regularly. Show your puppy where you want it to eliminate and use praises when your puppy goes in the right spot. Young puppies are usually not house trained and you should expect some accidents. Do not yell at your puppy if there is an accident. You should keep an eye on your puppy and look for signs that it wants to go so that you can take your puppy outside right away.

Take the time to play with your puppy and pay attention to your new pet. Puppies love receiving attention and petting or playing with your pet is a great way to bond. However, you need to make sure your puppy gets plenty of rest. A puppy needs to play a lot and to sleep for long hours. Let your puppy take a nap whenever it looks tired.

Your puppy might go to sleep early on their first night in their new home due to all the excitement. Your puppy will probably wake up very early the next day and you will have to get up too. Get used to waking up early since you will have to let your dog outside. Puppies are very energetic and you need to get used to keeping up with your new pet as it grows and learns over the next months and years.
